Fall 2008 Proves a Record Semester for GWCC Industrial Design Technology Program
GATEWAY COMMUNITY COLLEGE SETS NEW RECORD IN NIMS CERTIFICATIONS
Students in the Industrial Design Technology program at GateWay Community College have set a record for the most National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certifications that the program has ever credentialed in one semester, totaling 28 certifications in all.
NIMS is the nation’s only American National Standards Institute accredited developer of precision manufacturing skill standards and competency assessments for the metalworking industry. All NIMS standards are industry written and validated.
The certifications include the completion of 20 NIMS credentials in addition to five Mill certifications and three Lathe certifications that are currently under review by the MTEC committee, an external verification of project completion. Dave Zamora, program director of the Industrial Design Technology division, said that the Mill and Lathe projects have already been reviewed and verified at GWCC.
“GateWay Community College’s manufacturing program has recently completed a program update integrating NIMS skills into the curriculum,” Zamora said. “As we can see, it has paid off.”
GateWay is a NIMS-certified testing and training center that offers several associate’s degrees and certificates in a variety of industrial technology fields.
